Softball Secures Home Date in the CACC Tournament With Doubleheader Sweep of Post

Goldey-Beacom recorded a pair of five-inning victories and clinched Pike Creek as a home site for the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, defeating Post by scores of 10-1 and 10-2 at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning (32-11, 16-6 CACC) sit third in the CACC and will be among the four teams home next Saturday, beginning at noon.  GBC would need to defeat an opponent to be determined just once to advance to the four-team championship weekend May 1-3 in Bridgeport and the lower seed would have to win twice.

Goldey-Beacom in game one plated three runs in the last of the first inning for a 3-0 lead.  Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, MD) lined an RBI single, fellow senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) ripped a run-scoring double and junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) added an RBI single.

The Lightning then dropped the hammer in the second with six crossing home for a 9-0 margin.  Sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA), Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK), fellow senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) and senior Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ) all had RBI in the frame before senior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) lowered the curtain with a two-run double.

Frank, Bohmann, Radcliffe and senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) all had two hits for the Lightning.  Wilmington, DE senior Cat Nelson (2-1) struck out five, allowing just an unearned run and three hits.

Game two looked to be more of the same when Mirenda, Radcliffe and Simpson all had an RBI double in the first inning for a 3-0 Lightning cushion.

Post rallied with a pair of bases-loaded walks to make it 3-2 in the top of the second, but GBC rallied in the bottom half.  Frank got an RBI double and Bohmann added a run-scoring double for a 5-2 contest.

GBC then played long ball in making it 10-2 in the last of the third.  Freshman Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD) cracked a three-run blast for her first career long ball and Mirenda added a two-run shot for her fourth homer of the year.

Burch (15-4) came out of the bullpen to strike out six over 3 2/3 scoreless innings, yielding just two hits.  Mirenda had two hits and three RBI with Frank and Radcliffe getting two hits apiece.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday ends its regular season at Lincoln (PA) with a 1:00 pm doubleheader.
