Goldey-Beacom softball needed just one win over Georgian Court to advance to the next round of the CACC Tournament in Bridgeport, CT. After a tough 1-0 loss in nine innings in game one, the Lightning bounced back with a strong 2-0 victory in game two.
A very windy day at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE proved to be a challenge for the batters for both teams, as only one run was scored throughout the nine-inning first game. The single run was scored in the top of the ninth inning by Georgian Court on a double from Reagan Winn to score Cheyenne Jackson and force the if-necessary game in hopes of keeping its season alive.
Sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, Pa), senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, Pa), junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, Md) and freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, Md) each had a hit in game one. Frank extended her hitting streak to 20 games.
In game two, the fourth inning saw Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) seal the deal for the Lightning to advance with a triple over the right fielder's head that scored fellow senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK). Autumn Simpson added the insurance run directly after with a single down the left-field line to ensure the 2-0 GBC victory. Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Md.) only allowed four hits, striking out four to improve her record to 17-4.
Bohmann, Lowry and Simpson each recorded a hit, stringing together three consecutive in the fourth inning.
