No. 18 Baseball Splits Saturday Showdown at Wilmington

In a battle for positioning in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division, Goldey-Beacom notched a 13-1 victory at Wilmington before dropping a 9-3 contest in New Castle, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in game one again displayed first-inning offense, getting a two-run homer from senior Braden Kolmansberger (Lewisberry, PA) for a 2-0 lead.  Senior Jaden Dickerson (New Castle, DE) added an RBI single in the third for a 3-0 margin.

Wilmington got an RBI single from Brandon Grygo for a 3-1 contest before GBC distanced itself with three runs in the sixth.  Sophomore Bobby Stewart (Newark, DE) continued to be a force at the plate with an RBI double and senior Dante DiSabatino (Middletown, DE) made it 6-1 with a two-run long ball.

Dickerson in the seventh cracked a two-run double to make it 8-1 before GBC plated five in the eighth to win via the run rule.  Dickerson forced one home with a bases-loaded walk and Kolmansberger followed by forcing four home, launching a grand slam to left field.

Kolmansberger ended with six RBI, equaling his career best from March 30, 2023 vs. Alliance.  It also was his third multi-homer contest, all of which have come in the last two seasons, and he also recorded three hits.

Dickerson had two hits and four RBI with senior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) adding two hits.

Hagerstown, MD senior Mikey Hawbaker (5-2) turned in another impressive showing for his fourth victory in the last five appearances.  He struck out four over eight innings for his second complete game of the season.

Nick Classie and Josearmando Diaz recorded two hits apiece for the Wildcats.

Game two early on was a battle of home run derby.  Mason DeLuca blasted a two-run homer in the first for Wilmington before Kolmansberger got a solo shot in the second for a 2-1 GBC deficit.

Classie lined an RBI single in the third for a 3-1 Wildcats lead before the Lightning squared things in the fourth.  Kolmansberger again was on the spot with an RBI double and DiSabatino lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-3.

Mother Nature made the middle of the fifth inning 60 minutes and once the rain stopped, Wilmington took over.  Kody Clausius lined the go-ahead RBI single, Classie crushed a two-run homer and AJ Tropiano added a two-run blast for an 8-3 margin.

Kolmansberger had two more hits and two more RBI with Petrillo adding two hits.  Classie notched two hits and three RBI with Diaz getting two hits.

Goldey-Beacom (32-14, 22-8 CACC) remains second in the CACC South Division with Jefferson (23-7) still first and Wilmington (29-17, 21-9) still third.  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a first-round best-of-three series in the CACC Tournament.

These teams on Sunday will meet in another noon doubleheader.  This time it is Goldey-Beacom's Senior Day at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.
