Softball Prevails Over Thomas More and Ursuline on Day Three in Florida

Goldey-Beacom softball picked up a 5-1 victory over Thomas More and a second, 5-2, win over Ursuline in Melbourne, Florida.

Game one saw the Lightning get on the board in the first inning when senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) was walked, stole second, and was sent home off a double from fellow senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK). Thomas More evened the score at one in the third inning when Adisyn Johnson had a sacrifice ground-out to third base to send Anna Greenwell home.

The Lightning added their second run when sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) advanced home on an error after getting on base from an error. Sophomore Chaneyl Johnson scored after pinch running for senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, Md.), who hit a double to get on base, and Frank hit a single. Bohmann added GBC's fourth run after doubling to get on base and being sent home on a sacrifice fly by senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J).

Junior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) added the final run of the game after pinch running for freshman Kaitlyn Quintanilla (Edgewater Park, N.J.), who singled to get on base. Johnson advanced to second on a passed ball, advanced to third off a single from freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, M.D.), and stole home.

Senior Morgan McLane
(Clayton, DE) picked up the victory from the mound, improving to 2-0, after pitching four innings.  Senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, MD) struck out six over three innings for the save.

Game two saw similar action to the first, as Goldey-Beacom was first to score in the fourth inning. A single from Lowry sent home junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), who hit a single to get on base. Radcliffe then sent Lowry home on a fielder's choice for the second run of the inning. In the sixth inning, Lowry again hit a single to advance junior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) to home plate, after doubling to get on base, and giving the Lightning a 3-0 lead.

Goldey-Beacom gained two more runs in the final inning when Frank hit a triple to left field, and was immediately sent home by Mirenda, who also tripled to center field. Mirenda advanced to home off a single to left field from Insinga.

Ursuline added its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh after Nicole Brant-Badillo was sent home from a walk with bases loaded and Bridget Bogden was batted in off a single from Heidi Earl.

Goldey-Beacom softball plays again in Melbourne, FL  on Monday, when it faces Gannon at 2:30 pm and New Haven at 7:00 pm.
