Softball Splits Its First Two Contests In Florida

Goldey-Beacom opened its trip to Melbourne, FL with an 8-3 victory over Ursuline before a 6-2 loss to Roosevelt.

Goldey-Beacom in the opener got an RBI single from junior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) in the first inning and one from sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) in the second for a 2-0 margin.  The Lightning plated three runs in the sixth, aided by a two-run single from senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA), for a 5-2 cushion.

Mechanicsville, MD senior Caitlyn Burch (6-1) again was on fire in the circle, striking out three over five innings.  Mirenda, Insinga and Frank had two hits apiece.

Casey Barton collected three hits for the Arrows (0-5).

The second game did not go so well as the Lakers scored all the runs they would need with three in the third.  Athena Pomele-Pen got an RBI single for a 2-0 lead and Brynn Dvoracek notched her own run-scoring single for a three-run margin.

Junior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, NJ) crossed home in the third on an error and senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) got an RBI triple in the fifth.

Insinga had three hits and now paces the Lightning this season with 17.

Pomele-Pen and Caitlin Williams had two hits apiece for the Lakers (7-6).

Goldey-Beacom on Friday faces Cedarville at 2:30 pm and Columbus State at 7:00 pm.
