Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps Bloomfield in Doubleheader

Goldey-Beacom softball swept Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Bloomfield and scored nine runs on the day in holding its opponent scoreless.

Game one saw sophomore Chaneyl Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) open the scoring in the second inning with a double to left field that advanced junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) home. Junior Chasedy Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J) then hit a triple to right field that sent Chaneyl Johnson home. In the third inning, senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, Md.) hit her first home run of the season to score two more runs for the Lightning. The fifth run for GBC came from senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA), who was sent home off a single up the middle from Radcliffe.

Senior Caitlyn Burch ( Mechanicsville, Md.) claimed the victory on the mound and improved to 10-2 on the season, ending the day with five strikeouts.

Game two saw almost perfect pitching from senior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE), who only allowed one hit in the shutout and had a career-best 17 strikeouts.

The four runs for the Lightning came in the fifth inning when freshman Josalyn McMillan (Rising Sun, MD) doubled to left field that drove home Simpson and sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA). Radcliffe then put down a bunt that led Mirenda to home plate off of an error. McMillan was sent home by freshman Bri Cole (Rising Sun, MD), who had an RBI groundout.

Goldey-Beacom faces Georgian Court on Tuesday in a doubleheader at the Jackson Athletic Complex in Wilmington, DE at 2:00pm.
