No. 48 Women’s Tennis Dominates in 7-0 Win Over Shippensburg

No. 48 Goldey-Beacom did not drop a set in its first match of the season as a nationally ranked team, rolling to a 7-0 triumph over Shippensburg at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Juniors Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) and Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) got things going with a 6-0 victory over Ava Kalist and Kendall Winters at third doubles.  Seniors Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and Macy Hendin-Walker (Ipswich, England) clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph at No. 2 doubles over Corinne Markovich and Jade Miller.
 
Junior Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia), both named first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, received a battle at No. 1 doubles before recording a 6-3 victory over Yasmin De Meyer and Brooklynn Rupert.
 
Mova and senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) got things to 3-0 with each notching a 6-0, 6-0 win.  Mova was victorious at second singles over De Meyer with Corte upending Rupert at No. 5 singles.
 
Canbaz amassed a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles over Markovich, Hendin-Walker notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles over Rachel Gallagher and Quinonez got a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Miller at third singles.
 
Junior Elina Mukhamadeeva (Kazan, Russia) won a first-set tiebreak and then captured the last four games for a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph over Brinley Orris at sixth singles.
 
This marks the 11th time in school history Goldey-Beacom (10-4) has reached double figures in wins.  It comes one week after the program returned to the national rankings for the first time in six years.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is home against East Stroudsburg, beginning at noon.
