Softball Dealt Two Losses on Final Day in Florida

Goldey-Beacom softball took on a tough West Chester team for the second time this season and was handed a 5-2 loss before playing Ferris State and facing a 4-0 setback.

Game one saw West Chester put up four out of five runs in the second inning, three of which came from a double to center field by Mairead Hopkins that sent Gianna Liciardello, Paige Butland and Presley Foote home. Julia Miller then hit a single to left field that advanced Hopkins to home plate.

The Lightning scored in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) singled to center field, advanced to second on a passed ball, and was sent home on a single from senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA). GBC gained its second run in the fourth inning when senior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, Md.) doubled to center field to get on base. Sophomore Chaneyl Johnson (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) pinch ran for Radcliffe and was scored off the double to left field from freshman Bri Cole (Rising Sun, Md.). West Chester scored its fifth run off of a home run from Paige Marabell.

Frank led the Lightning with three hits, followed by Mirenda with two. Mirenda and Cole both added an RBI.

Game two saw Ferris State open up its scoring in the second inning when Brooklyn Verbeek singled to send Paige Antcliff home and Jadyn Joseph grounded out to allow Antcliff to score. Another run for Ferris State came in the third inning when Maddie Gkekas doubled to center field to advance Emma Gillard to home plate. The final run in the sixth inning came from Bailey McCalister, who reached home on a hit by Jayden Marlatt.

Radcliffe and senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) each notched a hit and senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Md.) struck out seven.

Goldey-Beacom returns home to the Jackson Athletic Complex on Saturday, when it begins Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play against Caldwell in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
