Women’s Basketball Heads into the CACC Tournament Off an 86-64 Victory at Wilmington

Already with a berth clinched in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, Goldey-Beacom turned on the jets against its local rivals in the third quarter for an 86-64 victory at Wilmington in Newark, DE.
 
GBC (10-18, 7-9 CACC) clinched the fourth and final spot from the South Division with Georgian Court losing earlier today, 64-56, at Chestnut Hill.  Goldey-Beacom will face North Division champion Dominican (NY) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 5:30 pm in Orangeburg, NY.
 
The four quarterfinal winners next weekend head to Jefferson University for championship weekend.
 
The third quarter today saw the Lightning charge out of the locker room by gaining a 27-15 edge on the scoreboard, shooting 57 percent (8-of-14) from the floor and holding the Wildcats to just 38 percent (6-of-16) for a 67-50 lead.  Senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) scored 13 points in that span with sophomore Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) adding five.
 
Yoder continued to be a major spark, closing with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting.  Kulesza, a huge addition after playing her first three seasons at Bucknell, poured in 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
 
Junior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) netted 15 points and now has 980 for her career.  Senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with nine assists.
 
Daja Claiborne netted 22 points with Jasmine McDuffie adding 19 for the Wildcats (1-27, 0-16).
