Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Handed 76-61 Loss By Dominican (NY) in the CACC Quarterfinals

Goldey-Beacom hung around most of the contest against regionally ranked Dominican (NY), but was dealt a 76-61 loss at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Orangeburg, NY.

Goldey-Beacom at the end of the first half canned two big 3-pointers in gaining momentum and closing to a 42-35 deficit.  Sophomore Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) drilled one with 28 seconds left and senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) added one just before time expired.

McCarron closed the half with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting, senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) had seven and five assists with Yoder adding six points.

Goldey-Beacom, showing grit and tenacity the entire campaign, opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run in moving to 59-56 with 7:01 left.  Junior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) ended the spurt with a 3-pointer.

Tanasha Mills was just getting warm for the Chargers and had a scoring burst of her own, netting five straight points that included a 3-pointer with 5:27 remaining for a 64-56 margin.

Junior Gaia Zimbardo (Parma, Italy) had one of her best outings of the season and provided some offense, converting an old-fashioned three-point play with 4:00 to go for a 64-59 contest.

But that was the Lightning's last meaningful basketball of the night.  Mills was responsible for two old-fashioned three-point plays that proved huge, one with 2:56 left and the last with 1:49 to go for a 70-59 game.

Ciszkowski had 15 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season, McCarron netted 11 points and Yoder added 10 with six rebounds.  Ciszkowski now stands at 995 career points.

Kulesza recorded nine points, seven rebounds and six assists on a day in which she was named second team All-CACC.  Zimbardo added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Mills simply was spectacular, ending with 27 points, seven assists and five steals that included going 12-for-13 from the foul line.  Cayla Howard had 13 points and eight rebounds, Angelina DiMarsico notched 13 and six with Tamia Nunes adding 11 points for Dominican (22-7), ranked fourth in the latest D2CSC East Region Rankings.

Goldey-Beacom (10-19) this season overcame injuries to make the CACC Tournament in consecutive years for the first time in a decade.  GBC got in the tournament on the heels of a 78-77 overtime victory February 15 at Georgian Court to avoid elimination, followed by a 71-68 upset seven days later of No. 20 Holy Family.
