Goldey-Beacom softball rallied back in the final inning of both games against Saint Thomas Aquinas to complete the sweep and improve to 8-1 on the season.
The first game saw Goldey-Beacom take an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when junior Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) hit a triple to send junior Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) and Senior Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) home, who got on base through a single up the middle and a walk.
Saint Thomas Aquinas was able to come back and score its first run in the top of the third inning when Olivia Leon singled up the middle to lead Elyse Marcano home. STAC scored its second run in the top of the fourth inning when Adriana Coira sent her sister, Maristella Coira, home with a single up the middle after M. Corella hit a single and stole second.
The Lightning had the winning run when senior Bryn Bohmann ( Saskatoon, SK) singled to get on base, Simpson had a sacrifice bunt to advance her to second, and senior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, N.J.) sent Bohmann home with a single to right field.
Junior Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, M.D.) took her first win of the season on the mound and senior Caitlyn Burch (Mechanicsville, Md.) picked up her first save.
The second game saw similar tempo to the first, with Saint Thomas Aquinas scoring in the top of the fourth inning when Eliana Raposo doubled to get on base and Gianna Longo sent her home with a single. STAC scored their second run in the top of the sixth inning Longo hit another single to advance MArcano home.
The Lightning got on the board in the bottom of the sixth off a single from junior Rayna Pelcak, who sent Lowry home after advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt from freshman Bri Cole (Rising Sun, M.D.).Â
In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) reached first on a fielding error and Mirenda had an incredible inside the park home run to right field to score the winning two runs and complete the sweep.
Burch was the winning pitcher, improving to 5-1 on the mound, and Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, Md.) completed the save with six strikeouts.
The Lightning travel to Melbourne, FL on Thursday, where they play Ursuline at 10:00am and Roosevelt at 12:15pm.
