Softball Dealt First Loss of the Season, 2-1 by West Chester

Goldey-Beacom's season-opening winning streak was snapped at six games with a 2-1 loss to West Chester at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Goldey-Beacom grabbed a 1-0 lead in the last of the first inning.  Ariana Mirenda (Reading, PA) had a leadoff single, stole second and scored on a double from fellow senior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK).
 
The Golden Rams got that run back in the third.  Hailey Melvin singled, stole second and scored on Casey Best's RBI single up the middle.  West Chester then took the lead, 2-1, in the fifth when Melvin had a groundout that scored Mairead Hopkins.
 
Mirenda and Bohmann closed with two hits apiece for the Lightning (6-1).  Mechanicsville, MD senior Caitlyn Burch pitched great in striking out four over seven innings.
 
Best had two hits for West Chester (2-1), Danielle Ciliberto struck out four over five innings for the win and Makenzie Edwards surrendered just one hit over two frames for the save.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hosts Saint Thomas Aquinas for a noon doubleheader.
