Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls, 98-76, at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom hung tough with Wilmington (DE) in the opening half, but could not do the same in the second for a 98-76 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Newark, DE.

The first half was the usual tight battle between the local rivals that only saw Wilmington up 39-35 at halftime.  Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) scored 12 points for the Lightning with Denim Perkins and Tre Hawkins netting 11 apiece for the Wildcats.

That tight battle changed in the second, when the Wildcats used a 32-12 run over 8 1/2 minutes to grab a 71-49 lead with 11:25 left.  Jaiden Guy poured in nine points with Laylin Horsey adding seven.

Wilmington dominated the second half with a 59-41 edge on the scoreboard, shooting 63 percent (24-of-38) from the floor in the stanza and 59 percent (38-of-64) for the contest.

Powell scored 23 points to tie his career best on 7-of-13 shooting along with seven assists and six rebounds to continue what has been a stunning campaign.  It is the fourth time this season he has reached at least 20 points.

Sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) netted 12 points with junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY), last Monday picked the league's Defensive Player of the Week, getting 11 and five steals for GBC (5-3, 2-2 CACC).

Guy scored 25 points on 7-of-14 shooting with eight assists, five rebounds and was 10-for-11 from the line.  Hawkins poured in 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting with 11 rebounds and Akeem Taylor added 12 points for the Wildcats (4-5, 1-3).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is home against Felician as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 3:00 pm, following the women's 1:00 pm contest.
