Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Records 94-86 Victory Over Molloy

Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) continued to be an offensive machine with a career-high 27 points and senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) made four big plays in the final two minutes in Goldey-Beacom's 94-86 victory over Molloy at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The game was tightly contested throughout until the Lightning's offensive took charge.  The squad went on an 18-2 run in just over 3 1/2 minutes to open a 68-53 lead with 13:05 remaining, thanks to five points apiece from Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) and fellow junior Elisha Brown (Bowie, MD).

Molloy fought back by going on a 25-14 spurt in just under nine minutes, closing to 82-78 with 4:13 to play.  Sebastian Bosquez netted six points in that time with Manu Alford adding five.

The Lightning's lead was 85-81 with under two minutes left and neither team had scored for almost two minutes.  The next points would be massive and it was Allen who delivered, canning a 3-pointer with 1:54 remaining for a seven-point GBC margin.

Allen's second and third acts almost were simultaneous.  He came up with a steal on the next Molloy possession and went in for a layup with 97 seconds left for a 90-81 contest.

On the next trip down the floor, Bryce Merchant missed a 3-pointer on the other end for the Lions and Allen fought for the rebound to complete his superfecta.

Powell simply was outstanding, again.  He shot 10-of-17 from the floor with three 3-pointers and now has scored at least 20 points five times this season.  Powell now is third in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with 18.2 points per game.

Jones netted 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go with six steals and sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) added 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Lightning (6-4).

Merchant netted 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, Dylan Kopp scored 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting, Jared Weakly had 13, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals with Manu Alford adding 11 points for the Lions (1-10).

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday is home against Mercy for a 6:00 pm game.
