Women’s Basketball Dealt 72-53 Setback at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom was on the wrong end of a second-quarter deluge by Dominican (NY) and dropped a 72-53 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest in Orangeburg, NY.

The Chargers in the second quarter went on a 14-3 run to open a 39-23 lead with 3:04 remaining.  Sky Priester netted six points in that span with Dalana Taylor adding four.

Despite sophomore Lydia Betz (Pittsburgh, PA) continuing her outstanding season with seven points, the Lightning were in a 43-27 hole at halftime.  Sophomore Marasia Dyes (Binghamton, NY) scored six in the opening half with senior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) adding five and eight rebounds.

Betz again showed she is a vital part of the offense, scoring 17 points over 34 minutes and shooting 9-for-9 from the foul line.  She has scored in double figures all six games this season and is averaging 17.0 points over the last three games.  Betz now is seventh in the league with 14.7 points per contest.

Dyes netted 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting with Ciszkowski getting seven and a career-best 16 rebounds for the Lightning (0-6, 0-2 CACC).

Priester closed with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, Cayla Howard netted 14 with Taylor adding 12 for the Chargers (2-4, 1-1).

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is home to face Chestnut Hill as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at 6:00 pm, which precedes the men's 8:00 pm contest.
