Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 105-85 Loss at Dominican (NY)

In a matchup of what is expected to be two of the top teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Goldey-Beacom gave up a decisive second-half run and was dealt a 105-85 loss in Orangeburg, NY.

The teams were in a 40-40 deadlock at the intermission, each displaying outstanding defense that would be contrary of the final score.  The Chargers shot just 35 percent (13-of-37) from the field in going 3-of-11 from 3-point range and the Lightning were 34 percent (14-of-41) from the floor.

The game remained close until Dominican used a 32-16 run in just over eight minutes to take an 84-66 lead with 7:40 remaining.  Koi D. Kirk, Jr. scored 11 points in that time with Javel Cherry adding 10 points and Elijah Peters netting seven.

Dominican (NY) in the second half shot 68 percent (25-of-37) from the field as part of its 65 points and was 6-of-11 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) again was outstanding with 14 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and two 3-pointers for GBC (4-2, 1-1 CACC).  He has scored in double figures all six of the Lightning's contests.

Sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, NY) scored 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting with four 3-pointers, senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) netted 12 points, Masud Stewart (Philadelphia, PA) poured in 11 with fellow junior Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) adding 10 and nine rebounds.

Kirk netted 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting with 13 rebounds, Chance Morrish scored 17 points, Peters had 16 with Cherry adding 13 for the Chargers (5-0, 2-0).
