Goldey-Beacom men's basketball traveled to Washington, DC for an opening-weekend tournament, beginning with a 90-68 win over D'Youville.
In the opening half, the Lightning limited the Saints to 35 percent from the field (7-of-20) and entered halftime with a 42-31 lead. In the second half, Goldey-Beacom went on an 11-2 run in the opening minutes to extend their lead en route to the opening game win.
Sophomore Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, N.J.) led the Lightning with 22 points, five assists and three steals. Fellow sophomore Brian Blanchet (North Babylon, N.Y.) finished with 17 points, senior Justin Allen (Boca Raton, FL) notched 14 points and Emarquis Jones (Brooklyn, NY) finished with nine rebounds.
D'Youville was led by Trayton Trice with 20 points and Nathan Andrice with 10 rebounds.
Goldey-Beacom returns to action on Saturday, when it faces the District of Columbia after 3:00 pm in Washington.
