Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Uses Late Run to Notch 70-61 Victory at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom received great scoring output late in the contest and won its third straight with an 80-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Fresh off its stunning overtime victory Saturday against Bridgeport, Goldey-Beacom tonight came out flying in the opening half.  The Lightning grabbed a 32-18 halftime lead thanks to canning five 3-pointers and limiting the Tigers to just 32 percent shooting (7-of-22).

Senior David Robinson (Philadelphia, PA) scored 11 points in the half with junior Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD) adding nine.

Holy Family made a game of it in the second half, using an 11-4 run in just over two minutes for a 61-57 deficit with 5:16 remaining.  Omarion Jett scored five points in that time and ended it with a 3-pointer.

But it was sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) who has been on a tear of late and again continued to come up clutch.  On Goldey-Beacom's next possession, McQueen canned a 3-pointer, got fouled and completed the four-point play for a 65-57 margin with 4:54 left.

This came after Saturday's game in which McQueen hit the tying 3-pointer late in regulation and the go-ahead 3-pointer late in overtime.

Following CJ Mundell's jumper that got the Tigers to 65-59 with 3:56 left, Goldey-Beacom scored the next seven points.  McQueen hit a jumper with 3:28 remaining, Robinson made a shot 24 seconds later and McQueen canned another jumper with 1:46 to play for a 72-59 margin.

McQueen ended with 19 points and now is averaging 19.4 points over his last nine contests.  Freshman Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) netted 17 points, Taylor scored 14 with Robinson adding 13 and nine rebounds.

Goldey-Beacom (8-12, 5-4 CACC) now has won nine consecutive games against Holy Family (6-15, 0-9).

Jett scored 22 points with CJ Mundell and Ryan Holmes adding 16 apiece for the Tigers.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday at 3:00 pm is at Caldwell, ranked eighth in the latest D2CSC East Region Poll.
