Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 76-72 Loss at Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom played close with regionally ranked Caldwell for a majority of the second half, but left with a 76-72 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road loss in Caldwell, NJ.

A second half that was not more than a two-possession game suddenly was altered when DeAngelo Horn canned a 3-pointer with 4:40 remaining, giving Caldwell a 71-63 lead.

Goldey-Beacom was not phased, scoring the next seven points in closing to 71-70 with 1:58 to go.  Freshman Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ) hit a layup with 3:38 remaining, senior David Robinson (Philadelphia, PA) canned a 3-pointer with 3:03 left and sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) made a layup.

The Cougars got things to 73-70 with 1:40 left when Melvin Evans hit a layup.  Derrick Bueno hit 1-of-2 from the line with 56 seconds to go for a four-point Caldwell lead.

Junior Shane Taylor (Ellicott City, MD) hit twice from the line for a 74-72 deficit and now it was time for a defensive stop.  Caldwell bled the shot clock and Evans took control, hitting a driving layup with 30 seconds left for a four-point game.

Junior Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) closed with a season-high 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, Taylor netted 16 on 5-of-9 shooting and freshman Tre Powell (Mount Laurel, NJ) added 11 for GBC (8-13, 5-5 CACC), which falls out of a three-way tie for first in the CACC South Division it shared with Jefferson (6-4) and Chestnut Hill (6-4).

Marsh now is at 1,209 career points, moving into sixth place in program history.

Evans closed with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, Bueno netted 12 with Horn and Isaiah Philbert adding 11 apiece for the Cougars (13-7, 5-4), ranked eighth in the latest D2CSC East Region Poll.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday hosts Jefferson for an 8:00 pm contest.
