Women’s Tennis Gets Huge 4-3 Victory Over Jefferson

(boxscore)

Goldey-Beacom won the doubles point and captured three singles matches in straight sets for a massive 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Jefferson at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Things went smoothly in doubles with GBC taking two of the matches.  Juniors Zehra Canbaz (Denizli, Turkiye) and Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) saw their match as the first to close, recording a 6-2 victory at second doubles over Anna Morgillo and Rose Huang.  Senior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) and freshman Sofia Lopez (Bogota, Colombia) got a challenge from Nicole Hrbkova and Alycia Veroux at No. 1 doubles before getting a 6-4 triumph.

The Lightning (3-1, 2-1 CACC) were in a 2-1 hole before senior Lucia Corte (Gijon, Spain) leveled the tie with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at sixth singles over Emily Frost.  Lopez got her second win of the day by taking the match at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-4, over Morgillo for a 3-2 team lead.

Junior Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) was locked in a tussle against Zenia Barretto at fourth singles in a match that could have gone either way.  The former got the service break in the second set she needed and posted a 7-5, 6-3 win, snapping the Lightning's four-match skid vs. the Rams (2-2, 1-2).

Goldey-Beacom is back at it Wednesday with a home match against Chestnut Hill, starting at 2:00 pm.
