CACC Announces Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll

8/28/2024 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's volleyball team takes to the court with a new head coach, looking to change many opinions with the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference preseason coaches poll being announced.

The Lightning are ecstatic to welcome back senior outside hitter Piper Nanouski (Chicago, IL), an energetic competitor who has been one of the squad's catalysts the last three years.  A solid athlete who has given her all in helping make the team better, Nanouski last year started every match and closed 42nd in the league with 125 kills.

Nanouski enters the year with 586 career kills, 51 outside the school's top-10 list.

Junior middle blocker Megan Chesser (Grove City, OH) for two years has been a vital player with her strong hitting, solid blocking and outstanding serve.  Another key in helping make the program better and also a member of the track & field team, Chesser last season ended 37th in the country with 0.51 aces per set (ninth in the CACC), 20th in the league with 33 aces and 40th with 29 blocks.

Sophomore right side Ma'kayla Coats (Ann Arbor, MI) made an immediate appearance in the lineup and did not relinquish, showing impressive hitting and signs that she will continue to be a key component.  Coats ended last season second on the team with 80 kills.

The Lightning begin anew this season with the addition of Alexa Poss as its new head coach.  The improvement already has been apparent with the squad getting a hard-fought, five-set victory in the spring over Bowie State.

Poss in 2022 took over a squad at Albright College that the previous year went 5-11 and ended the season with seven consecutive losses.  Things changed her first season with a 10-13 record and continued into last year, when the Lions went 16-10 and won eight straight matches midway through the campaign.

Jefferson was picked to win the South Division and Bridgeport was selected to capture the North Division.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season September 6 with matches against Queens (NY) and Southern Connecticut State.
