5/20/2024 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom senior Ashwin Jood (Pretoria, South Africa), a standout competitor all season, has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Year.

This comes on the verge of him getting ready to compete this week at the NCAA Track & Field Championships in Emporia, KS in the 400-meter dash.  Jood is one of 22 who will be in the trials on Thursday at 6:40 pm Eastern Time (5:40 pm local).

The winner in each of the three heats along with the next five fastest times will be the eight runners who advance to the final, which is Saturday at 4:05 pm Eastern Time (3:05 pm local).  Jood is scheduled to run in the third heat in lane four.

In Goldey-Beacom's fifth competitive season, Jood is the first to compete at the NCAA Championships.

Jood owns the nation's fourth-best time in the 400-meter dash, racing 46.04 seconds April 12 at the Larry Ellis Invitational.  He also is 23rd in the 200-meter dash, owning a time of 20.96 seconds from March 22 at the Stockton Invitational.

It will be Jood's second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships in this event, ending sixth in 46.43 seconds for Carson-Newman University.

Jood has done a lot of winning this season, 11 times capturing first place that included twice at the CACC Championships.  He was victorious in the 200-meter dash in 21.13 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 46.77 seconds, becoming the Lightning's first to win multiple conference titles in the same year.

The conference event also was the fourth time this season Jood had multiple victories in the same meet.

Those points Jood produced were huge for Goldey-Beacom, which closed third at the CACC Championships for the squad's best finish in just its fifth season.  He also produced half of the Lightning's victories at the conference meet with Kosiani Dunkley (Kingston, Jamaica) winning the 800-meter run and fellow junior Dev Napier (Hagerstown, MD) taking the 100-meter dash.

Jood's efforts helped him to be named the College's Male Athlete of the Year.
