Goldey-Beacom College was proud to hold its 2024 Student-Athlete Awards Ceremony that continued the tradition of presenting many awards to deserving student-athletes in both athletics and academics.
Â
The ceremony in past years was combined with the department's Hall of Fame Ceremony and was held at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark. For the third straight year, the College's Events Center brought everything back on campus and allowed a separate event that was all about the student-athletes.
Â
"This always is such a great event," Director of Athletics Jeremy Benoit said. "Not only because we get to honor all of our student-athletes' many achievements, but because the energy in the room is absolutely electric as they cheer for their teammates winning awards. Â That level of camaraderie is everything we hope develops in each of our programs."
Â
The day's honors included the following awards:
Â
- Scholar Athlete Awards for the highest grade point average for each sport
- Chi Alpha Sigma pins for inductees of the National Student-Athlete Honors Society
- Student-Athlete stoles for graduating seniors
- President's Award, which cites leadership and sportsmanship
- Brian Conley Comeback Player of the Year Award presented by NovaCare
- Male and Female Rookies of the Year
- Male and Female Most Valuable Players
Â
"This year saw a level of athletic success that truly is unprecedented in Lightning Athletics," Benoit added. Â "Teams had varied success levels but, across the board, this is the most talent we've had in my nine years at GBC and it has been incredible to watch our student-athletes compete."
