Softball Gains No. 3 Seed for the CACC Tournament in Doubleheader Split at Felician

Goldey-Beacom clinched the number three seed for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with its 2-1 victory at Felician in game one before a 10-6 loss in Little Ferry, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday will host sixth-seeded Georgian Court in the tournament's first round, beginning at noon.  The Lightning need just one victory to advance to championship weekend and the Lions need two.

Four teams go to championship weekend, which is May 2-4 on the campus of Wilmington University in New Castle, DE.

It is believed to be the first time Goldey-Beacom will host a game in this tournament as accurate records for all seasons are not available.

Goldey-Beacom (24-26, 14-8 CACC) in game one got things rolling in the top of the first inning.  Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and fellow junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) each had two-out singles before sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) walked to load the bases.  Sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) then continued her impressive stretch by lining an RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 lead.

Felician leveled things, 1-1, in the bottom of the first when Alexis Velotta cracked an RBI double to score Hannah Ramirez.

GBC regained the lead in the second.  Senior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) reached on a leadoff error, sophomore pinch-runner Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) got to third on two groundouts and scored when a grounder from senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) turned into an error.

Senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) again was outstanding in the circle, striking out eight over seven innings in yielding just one run and three hits.  For the four-time CACC Pitcher of the Week, her 16th win of the year puts her tied for second on the school's single-season list and tied for eighth on the career list.

Lowry had two hits for the Lightning.

Even with its seeding clinched with the win, Goldey-Beacom still had its bats going in the nightcap.  Simpson stayed red hot with an RBI single to open the scoring in the top of the second and junior Wynter Radcliffe (Glen Burnie, MD) later in the inning rapped a two-run double for a 3-0 margin.

After Felician (19-29, 13-9) scored four in the last of the frame, GBC retook the lead when Bohmann cracked a three-run homer for a 6-4 contest.

After forging a 6-6 tie in last of the third, the Golden Falcons scored three in the fourth for a 9-6 game.  Mia Martinez crushed a two-run homer and Daisha Howard followed with a solo blast.

Simpson ripped two hits and now has 13 over her last nine contests with 11 RBI.  Lowry closed with two more hits.
