Softball Notches Two Walk-Off Wins Over Dominican (NY) on Senior Day

Sophomore Autumn Simpson connected for two walk-off plays to help Goldey-Beacom complete a sweep over Dominican (NY) on senior day in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

After six scoreless innings in game one, Dominican (NY)'s Haylee Ridge fired a solo homerun to left center to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.

Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) gave the Lightning some hope having reached first base on a defensive error, and sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) pushed her to third with a double lined to right center.

With two on base, the ball put in the air by Simpson dropped from the glove of the Charger's right fielder, scoring Lowry on a sacrifice fly, and pinch-runner sophomore Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) also scored to give the Lightning the 2-1 victory.

Dagsboro, DE senior Abigail O'Shields (15-8) gave the Lightning defensive dominance, striking out 13 and allowing two hits in yet another complete game. Lowry and Scott recorded one hit apiece.

Game two saw a similar start with Dominican (NY) opening the scoring, but this time a three RBI-homer from Giovanna Salcido.

Dominican (NY) furthered its lead to 4-0 in the fourth with an RBI-single from Chloe McIntosh.

But the Lightning began a rally in the fourth with momentum which was difficult to stop. Goldey-Beacom tallied three runs off an RBI-double from Scott, and RBI-singles from Simpson and senior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) to bring the score to 4-3.

A final run was scored by Dominican (NY) in the sixth to further the lead to 5-3, but with all of the momentum with the Lightning, they were not out.

To open the seventh, the Lightning fired three doubles from sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ), Frank, and senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) to tie the score at 5-5.

With a runner on third and two outs, Simpson stepped up to the plate and more than delivered with a walk-off RBI-single up the middle to secure the 6-5 triumph for GBC (23-25, 13-8 CACC).

Simpson closed 3-for-4 with two RBI and Frank finished 3-for-4 with one RBI. Davis added two hits and one RBI, with junior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) notching the win.

McIntosh finished with two hits and one RBI, and Adriana Barned and Emily Angulo had two hits, with Salcido notching one hit and three RBI.

Seniors O'Shields, Davis, Monzo, and Gwen Safin (Stroudsburg, PA) were honored in their last regular season home game.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Felician on Wednesday for a 2:00 pm doubleheader in Little Ferry, NJ.
