Softball Takes Two Over Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom found its way to a 10-0 triumph over Bloomfield before a 4-3 second game thriller in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning stormed to a 5-0 lead in game one with seven hits. Junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) and senior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ) each drilled two RBI-singles, and sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) lined an RBI-single of her own.

A further three runs came in the third off doubles to left field from sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) and freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA).

The game concluded in five innings following a sacrifice fly from Simpson and an RBI-single from junior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) for a 10-0 triumph.

Frank closed with two hits and two RBI, junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) notched two hits), and Bohmann, Simpson, and Monzo finished with one hit and two RBI apiece. Senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) notched her 14th win, striking out 11 and allowing just one hit in five innings.

Game two provided some more exciting play in seven innings.

Jocelyn Moody opened scoring with an RBI-single up the middle to score Sierra Albritton.

But the Lightning answered back in the second with a run of their own. Having fired a triple to right center, Lowry was in scoring position for sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN), who delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 1-1.

After a scoreless inning, Bloomfield took back the lead on a fielding error by the Lightning, scoring Daniela Vidal.

Coming into the sixth inning and a one run deficit, the Lightning found its way to a 3-run rally, opened by Frank with a home run fired to left field. Back-to-back singles from senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) and Bohmann placed two runner on base, and Simpson was once again provided a two RBI-single to give the Lightning a 4-2 lead.

Battling to push for extra innings, Bloomfield made the score 4-3 on catcher's interference, but strong pitching from O'Shields secured the win for GBC (21-25, 11-7 CACC).

Simpson finished with two hits and two RBI and Frank had one hit and one RBI.

Moody had two hits and one RBI for Bloomfield (16-19, 10-6 CACC).
