Softball Drops a Pair at Bridgeport



Goldey-Beacom dropped two games on the road, 0-6 and 3-11, to Bridgeport in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Bridgeport, CT.
 
Sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) opened the scoring in game two off a fielder's choice play and fellow sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) tallied a second run with an RBI-single to second base for a 2-0 Lightning lead.
 
Bridgeport tied up the score on a two RBI-home run from Mya Jones, before a three RBI-double to left center from Meg McFarland extended the lead to 5-2 in favor of the Purple Knights.
 
A four-run rally for Bridgeport in the third of two RBI-singles and a grounded-out RBI stretched the lead to 9-2.
 
Junior Davi Jimenez (Vineland, NJ) added the final Lightning run on a passed ball, but Bridgeport secured the win on a hit by pitch and a grounded-out RBI from Madison D'Amato.
 
Freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) and seniors Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) and Gabriella Monzo each finished with two hits.
 
Game one saw Bridgeport take control from the second inning, with a home run from Samantha Schiebe for a 1-0 lead.
 
The Purple Knights notched another two runs in the third off a defensive error and an RBI-single from Jones, before a final two RBI-home run from Jones in the fifth secured the 6-0 win for Bridgeport.
 
Dagsboro, DE senior Abigail O'Shields (13-7)  notched eight strikeouts over 4.2 innings, and Davis and sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) each closed with one hit for GBC (20-21, 9-5 CACC).
 
D'Amato closed 3-for-3, Jones notched two hits and four RBI, and Schiebe had two hits and one RBI. Kaite Burawski struck out 11 and allowed two hits in a complete game for Bridgeport (17-17, 14-2 CACC).
 
Goldey-Beacom heads to Georgian Court on Tuesday for a 2:00 pm conference doubleheader in Lakewood, NJ.
