Softball Rolls to Sweep Over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom showed impressive play in a sweep, 1-0 and 9-1, over Jefferson in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

Dagsboro, DE senior Abigail O'Shields (13-6) continued her unstoppable play on the mound, striking out nine and allowing just one hit in another complete game.

The only run of the game came in the sixth inning after senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) made her way to the bases with a double, and then promptly stole third and ended back at home off a defensive error from Jefferson.

Davis, junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK), and sophomores Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) and Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) each notched one hit.

Game two saw more action, with the Lightning taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Davis once scored in similar fashion to game one, via a defensive error, before Bohmann lined a two RBI-home run to left field.

Jefferson was able to tally a run on the scoreboard off a sacrifice fly from Mackenzie Ward.

Goldey-Beacom (19-21, 9-3 CACC) secured the victory in five innings, beginning with an RBI-single from Scott and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) to extend the lead to 5-1 in the third.

Three further runs came in the fourth off RBI-singles from Scott and sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), and a wild pitch to score Bohmann.

The final run came from Insinga after following a defensive error from Jefferson, opening up home plate to seal the 9-1 win.

Davis closed 3-for-3, Bohmann finished 2-for-2 with two RBI, Scott had two hits and two RBI, and Simpson added two hits and one RBI.

Sabrina Pastino had two hits for Jefferson (10-9, 4-4 CACC), with three other plays getting a hit each.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Bridgeport, CT on Saturday for a 1:00 pm doubleheader against Bridgeport to continue conference play.
