Softball Doubles Up to End Florida Trip

Goldey-Beacom lowered the curtain on its Florida trip with two solid outings, yielding just one run and five hits for a 5-0 triumph over Ashland and a 5-1 victory vs. Concord in Winter Haven, FL.

The first contest was against Ashland and it was yet another opportunity to prove senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) was a solid addition.  She struck out nine over seven innings in pitching a two-hit shutout, giving her 41 strikeouts over her last five outings.

The Lightning in the last of the first inning gave O'Shields all the offense she would need.  Freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) lined a leadoff double, took third on a single from senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) and scored when junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) ripped a two-run double to continue her amazing campaign.

Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) lined an RBI single in the second, Delaney Insigna (Southampton, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly in the third and fellow sophomore Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) scored on a throwing error in the sixth for the final.

Sophomore Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) went 3-for-3 and Frank also had three hits for the Lightning (5-15).

Junior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE) in game two took her turn to shine in the circle, striking out a season-high six and surrendering just one run and three hits.  She faced just three batters above the minimum.

Both teams could not crack the others' pitcher until the Lightning struck for three runs in the top of the fourth.  Frank and Davis each lined an RBI single before Doctor scored on a throwing error.

GBC got two more in the seventh when Davis and Lowry each singled before crossing home on a throwing error.  Courtney Raines had an RBI double in the last of the frame for the Mountain Lions.

Davis, Lowry, Friel and sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) had two hits apiece for Goldey-Beacom.  Frank had a single and now owns a team-season-high 11-game hitting streak.

Lacie Lewis notched two hits for Concord.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday visits Lincoln (PA) for a noon doubleheader.
