Softball Splits a Pair With Lock Haven

Goldey-Beacom opened its doubleheader against Lock Haven with a 6-3 victory before it was handed an 8-7 setback at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning gained a 4-1 lead in the second inning, thanks to plating four runs.  Sophomore Delaney Insinga (Southampton, NJ) lined an RBI single and junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) cleared the bases with a three-run triple.

The margin grew to 6-1 in the third when junior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE) ripped an RBI single and sophomore Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA) followed with her own run-scoring single.

Summer Peters had a run-scoring double in the fourth and Bella Schmitt lifted a sacrifice fly later in the inning as part of her two-RBI day for the Bald Eagles.

Senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE), the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week, struck out nine over seven innings.  Friel closed with two hits.

Peters had two hits for Lock Haven.

Goldey-Beacom in game two was down 3-2 before it scored twice in the third, courtesy of singles from sophomores Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) and Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ).  The margin grew to 6-3 in the fourth on Lowry's RBI single and a sacrifice fly from junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK).

Lock Haven in the fifth got a sacrifice fly from Haley Lestician and a two-run homer from Riley McClellan for a 6-6 tie.

The Lightning in the fifth regained the advantage, 7-6, on Simpson's RBI single before the Bald Eagles took the lead in the sixth.  Peters tied it with a run-scoring single and Schmitt broke the deadlock with a squeeze bunt that plated Delaney Good.

Simpson had three hits and four RBI with Insinga rapping two hits for the Lightning (6-16).

Good, Peters, McClellan and Hailey Irwin all had two hits with Faith Persing tossing the last three innings out of the bullpen for Lock Haven (4-8).
