Softball Gains Another Florida Split

Goldey-Beacom used some late-innings magic to record a 3-1 victory over Trevecca Nazarene before it was handed a 4-2 loss in eight innings by Queens (NY) in Winter Haven, FL.

Goldey-Beacom in the opener was being no-hit by Alex Behnke for 5 1/3 innings before things turned.  Freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) lined a one-out single, senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) walked and Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) reached on a fielder's choice before fellow junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) roped a two-run single for a 2-1 GBC lead.

The margin grew to 3-1 in the top of the seventh.  Sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) was hit by a pitch, took second on a sacrifice from junior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE), got to third on a groundout from sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Spring, NJ) and scored on an infield single from junior Morgan McLane (Clayton, DE).

The lead held up as senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) tossed a perfect seventh inning, ending her complete game with six strikeouts in allowing just one run and three hits.

Behnke surrendered three runs – two earned—and three hits over seven innings for the Trojans (14-8).

Goldey-Beacom (3-15) in the nightcap plated a run in the last of the second inning for a 1-1 tie.  Simpson was hit by a pitch with two outs, stole second and scored on a single from senior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ).

The teams battled into extra innings before the Knights scored three times in the top of the frame.  Alyssa Wilkinson lined a go-ahead single, Jenny Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly and Caylea Campbell followed with an RBI double.

Sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) had an RBI single in the bottom of the inning and GBC worked its way in getting the tying run to second, but could not extend the game.

Frank recorded two hits in extending her hitting streak to nine games and Bohmann added a hit to make it a six-game run.  Scott rapped three hits, Davis added two and sophomore Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) struck out four over 7 2/3 innings.

Goldey-Beacom's Florida trip ends Friday with a 9:15 am game against Ashland and an 11:30 am contest vs. Concord.
