Softball Splits Two Games in Florida

Goldey-Beacom continued its Florida journey with an 8-5 victory over Seton Hill after it began with a 9-1 loss to Notre Dame (OH) in Winter Haven.

GBC against Seton Hill was in a 1-0 hole before it exploded for three runs in the top of the second.  A misplayed grounder scored sophomores Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) and Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) before senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) lined an RBI single for a 3-1 lead.

Simpson roped an RBI double in the third before four runs in the fourth made it an 8-1 contest.  Junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) ripped a two-run single, junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) scored on a wild pitch and Simpson continued her solid day with an RBI single.

The Griffins plated four runs in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) worked out of the jam for the win.

Simpson rapped three hits with Bohmann, Davis and freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) getting two hits apiece.  O'Shields struck out eight over seven innings, giving her 26 strikeouts in her last three appearances spanning 20 1/3 innings.

Goldey-Beacom against Notre Dame got one run back in the third inning, closing to a 4-1 deficit.  Bohmann drew a two-out walk, took second on Lowry's double and scored on Scott's single.

However, Notre Dame plated five runs in the sixth for the final.  Danielle Fick had a two-run double with Mia Cipriano, Katelyn DeWeese and Kaitlyn Mazzocca each getting an RBI single.

Sophomore Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) struck out four over 4 1/3 relief innings for the Lightning and Grace Fisher notched five strikeouts over six innings for the Falcons.

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday faces Trevecca Nazarene at 11:30 am and Queens (NY) at 2:00 pm, both in Winter Haven.
