Softball Handed Two Tough Losses in Florida

Goldey-Beacom in its first game Monday was handed a 6-3, eight-inning loss by Southwest Minnesota State before a 12-8 setback to Bemidji State in Winter Haven, FL.

Goldey-Beacom in the opener grabbed a 2-1 lead in the last of the third inning when junior Bryn Bohmann  (Saskatoon, SK) continued her torrid start, lining a two-run double to plate freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA) and senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE).

The margin grew to 3-1 in the sixth.  Junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) lined a leadoff single, took second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Gabriella Monzo (Northfield, NJ).

But the Mustangs leveled things in the seventh when Riley Kramolisch lined a one-out, two-run single.  They scored three times in the eighth on Molly Bull's RBI single, Jillian Noel crossing home on a passed ball and Bull ending the run on a passed ball.

Bohmann had two hits for the Lightning with senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) striking out eight over eight innings.

GBC in game two owned a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with RBI singles from Lowry and sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN).  Bemidji State got four in the last of the frame, aided by Grace Gumiela's two-run single.

Sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD) crushed a solo shot in the second for her fourth career long ball and a 4-3 deficit.  But the Beavers responded with three in the inning for a 7-3 game, highlighted by Mariah Stevenson's two-run double.

Scott had an RBI grounder in the third and Bohmann notched an RBI double in the sixth.  Bohmann has a hit in 10 of the Lightning's 14 contests this year, leading the squad with 18 RBI and a .381 batting average.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday faces Notre Dame (OH) at 1:30 pm and Seton Hill at 3:45 pm.
