Softball Completes Doubleheader Sweep at Post

Goldey-Beacom stayed undefeated in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a doubleheader sweep, 13-4 and 6-4, over Post in Waterbury, CT.

Game one saw the Lightning storm to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, opening with a walk for junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) with the bases loaded and a defensive error from Post to tally the first runs. Sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) lined a single to left center to notch two more runs.

Post cut the lead by two off a two-RBI homer from Lily Tomasiell, but Bohmann stayed reliable at the plate and fired a homer of her own to stretch the lead to 5-2 in the third.

An eight-run rally in the fifth for the Lightning furthered the lead off two-run singles from sophomore Autumn Simpson (Elkton, MD), and one apiece from junior Bri Snover (Claymont, DE), sophomore Emma Friel (Coatesville, PA), senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE), junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) and Bohmann for a 13-2 lead.

Post's final runs came in the fifth and final inning from a sacrifice fly from Caitlin DeAngelis and a defensive error from the Lightning in the 13-4 victory.

Bohmann closed 3-for-3 with three RBI, Pelcak notched two hits and two RBI, along with Davis, and Simpson went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) pitched another complete game, striking out six and allowing only two hits.

Game two was a different story for Goldey-Beacom as it fell behind 4-0 off an RBI-triple from Carli Perruso, an RBI single from Samantha Riccardul and a two-run homer from DeAngelis.

Despite the deficit, the Lightning was not out and found their way to gradually cut the lead. The first score came from Frank, who made it home on a throwing error by Post.

Bohmann continued her hot streak, notching two RBI on a sacrifice fly in the third and then fired a single up the middle to score Frank, followed by Davis on a defensive error from Post to tie up the score at 4-4.

Stepping up to the plate in the seventh, Lowry's composure gave GBC (15-18, 5-0 CACC) a 5-4 lead courtesy of an RBI double before she reached home plate via another defensive error to close a 6-4 triumph.

Davis and Simpson each closed with three hits, Frank finished with two, and Bohmann had one hit and two RBI. O'Shields (11-5) secured the triumph for GBC, strikeout out six over four innings.

DeAngelis closed 3-for-4 with two RBI, Riccardulli had three hits and one RBI and Julianna Cicala had two hits for Post (3-19, 0-6).

Goldey-Beacom travels to Philadelphia, PA on Monday to complete the second game of the postponed doubleheader against Chestnut Hill.  First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
