Softball Opens Conference Play With Sweep over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom worked its way to a doubleheader sweep, 3-0, 1-0, over Holy Family in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

In game one, senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE) was once again a force to be reckoned with on the mound, striking out 14 and allowing only one hit in 7.0 innings. With this win, O'Shields moves to a seven-game win streak and 116 strikeouts, seven off the single-season school record set by sophomore Alesia Doctor (Rising Sun, MD) in the 2023 season, and 14th career best in team history.

In the second inning, sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) tallied the first runs on the board with a two RBI-home run fired to center field. The final run came in the fifth off an RBI-double from junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) lined to left field.

Bohmann closed with two hits and one RBI and Scott finished with one hit and two RBI.

The only run in game two came in the first from a sacrifice fly from Scott to score freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA).

Frank closed with one run to move to a 17-game hitting streak and sophomore Rayna Pelcak (Laurel Springs, NJ) also notched a hit for GBC (11-17, 2-0 CACC).

Paige Tidaback closed with two hits, with four other players adding a hit for Holy Family (3-18, 0-2 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom travels to Staten Island, NY on Sunday for a 12:00 pm non-conference doubleheader against Staten Island.
