Women’s Tennis Opens Spring With 6-1 Setback to the District of Columbia

Goldey-Beacom looked to begin the spring on an upswing, but was dealt a 6-1 loss by the District of Columbia at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning got their lone point at fourth singles with sophomore Jess Sanzo (Bristol, England) recording a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Mariona Franco.  All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with the next closest match being junior Lisa-Marie Roussignol (Quimper, France) playing tough in a 7-5, 6-3 loss at No. 5 singles against Lina Benjelloun.
 
The fall was a successful one for Goldey-Beacom that saw Nahomi Quinonez (Manta, Ecuador) named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year and junior Elizabeth Mova (Sevastopol, Ukraine) tabbed second team all-league.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday hosts West Chester, beginning at noon.
