Softball Sees a Split with Southern New Hampshire

Goldey-Beacom played a solid first game, notching a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire in game one before falling 15-4 in game two at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The scoring started early in game one with junior Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) hitting a single up the middle to drive home freshman McKenna Frank (Oxford, PA).

Frank notched an RBI single of her own in the second for a 2-0 Lightning lead, and the final run came in the fifth after Lowry made it to home plate via a wild pitch for a 3-0 triumph.

Frank closed with two hits and one RBI, and Lowry finished with one hit and one RBI. Senior Abigail O'Shields (Dagsboro, DE), who is consistently reliable on the mound, struck out five in a complete game.

Game two saw a different start with the Penmen tallying runs first with a two-RBI single from Bella Dickinson.

Lowry found a way to cut into the lead by firing an RBI triple to right center and drive home senior Hannah Davis (Bethel, DE) for a 2-1 score.

But the Penmen did not hold back, tallying six runs in the next two innings to further the lead to 8-1. Peyton Feldman, Mackenzie Bruggeman, and Dickinson each notched an RBI single, and Charlotte Donovan lining a three RBI-double down the left field line.

The Lightning were able to cut the lead to 8-4 with a two-run single from junior Bryn Bohmann (Saskatoon, SK) and an RBI triple from sophomore Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN), but a sixth inning seven run rally from the Penmen sealed the 15-4 win.

Bohmann, who is on a 14-game hitting streak, finished with one hit and two RBI, and Scott and Lowry closed with one hit and one RBI. Frank's hit moves her to a 15-game hitting streak for GBC (9-17).

Feldman finished with an impressive four hits and five RBI, Dickinson had four hits and three RBI, Bruggeman had three hits and three RBI, and Shannon Gifford was 4-for-4 with one RBI. Julianna Colbert struck out four in 4 2/3 innings in the win for Southern New Hampshire (9-9).

Goldey-Beacom opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday against Holy Family with a 1:30 pm doubleheader at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
