Game Recap: Baseball |

No. 22 Baseball Gains Split at No. 6 Millersville

In the opening doubleheader of a four-game series with national implications, No. 22 Goldey-Beacom recorded an 8-2 victory in game two at No. 6 Millersville that followed a 7-2 loss in Millersville, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the second game put up a crooked number in each of the first five innings, starting with a run in each of the first two.  Garrett Musey (Millville, NJ) in the top of the first lined an RBI single to score fellow senior Demetrius Johnson (Glassboro, NJ) and junior Nick Harkins (Newark, DE) scored on a throwing error in the second for a 2-0 GBC lead.

Things got better in the third when Musey scored on a double play and senior Darin Miller (Mifflinburg, PA) crossed home on an error for a 4-0 contest.

Miller lined an RBI double in the fourth before the Lightning got three in the fifth for an 8-0 margin.  Harkins scored on a sacrifice bunt from junior Christian Petrillo (New Brunswick, NJ) before senior Kyle Walker (Wilmington, DE) roped a two-run single.

Millersville got two back in the sixth on Mark McNelly's RBI single and Sam Morris' sacrifice fly.

Musey and sophomore Anthony Charles (Mullica Hill, NJ) recorded two hits apiece with Wilmington, DE senior Justin Jump (2-0) striking out six and yielding just two runs and three hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Millersville (8-3) in game one owned a 3-0 lead before Goldey-Beacom (7-3) got one back in the top of the third inning.  Petrillo singled, took third when Johnson walked, advanced to third and scored on Walker's sacrifice fly.

But the Marauders got three in the last of the third for a 6-1 lead.  Keegan Soltis scored on a throwing error, John Seibert had a sacrifice fly and Jeff Sabater lined an RBI single.

Petrillo closed with three hits, which included an RBI single in the seventh that plated Charles.

Morris and Matthew Williams had two hits apiece with Carson Kulina (2-0) striking out seven over six innings for Millersville.

These teams on Sunday will play another noon doubleheader, this time at Doyle Field in Hockessin.
