Women’s Basketball Handed 66-49 Loss at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom once again saw its youthful lineup give its opponent trouble, but was dealt a 66-49 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

Sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) early on kept the Lightning in it, scoring six points during a 14-4 run that pulled GBC into a 28-20 tie with 3:30 remaining in the first half.  She nailed 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to end the spurt after Gaia Zimbardo (Parma, Italy) scored five points and fellow sophomore Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) added three.

The Lightning in the third quarter kept their usual pressure going.  Junior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) canned a 3-pointer in the first minute for a 37-33 deficit and the visitors held the Chargers without a field goal for almost four minutes.  The deficit during that time shrunk to 38-36 on Zimbardo's layup with 5:59 to go.

Dominican began to get separation, going on a 12-4 run to open a 50-40 lead with 53 seconds left in the period.  Isabella Javier netted five points in that span and Ashley Schmitt capped it with a 3-pointer.

But the Lightning could not respond, yielding a 13-2 spurt that gave the home side a 63-46 margin with 77 seconds to go.  Tanasha Mills netted seven points in that time with Chidinma Ndukauba adding six.

Zimbardo netted 11 points to match her season high along with hauling in seven rebounds, Ciszkowski had nine and nine, freshman Farrah White (Wilmington, DE) recorded eight and five with McCarron adding eight points for GBC (2-20, 1-9 CACC).

Javier finished with 18 points and six rebounds, Tamia Nunes had 13 and nine, Mills poured in 11 with Ndukauba contributing 10 for the Chargers (9-10, 6-4).

Goldey-Beacom next Saturday hosts Caldwell as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  Game time is at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
