Men's Basketball Claims 81-74 Triumph at Chestnut Hill

Goldey-Beacom's late second half rally led it to a 81-74 triumph over Chestnut Hill in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Philadelphia, PA.

The Lightning jumped to an early 15-6 lead just over six minutes into the game, with seven points coming from sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) and four from fellow sophomore Omari Banks (Middletown, DE).

By the halftime buzzer, Chestnut Hill clawed its way back to trail 32-39 courtesy of a 13-4 run at the 11-minute mark.

Opening the second half, both teams traded baskets until a 13-2 run in favor of Chestnut Hill tied up the game at 51-51 with 10:09 to go, led by Marshall Baker with nine points over a three-minute window.

Following a timeout, Goldey-Beacom responded with a 17-6 run of their own to take a 68-58 lead with 4:33 remaining.

This 10-point buffer became difficult for Chestnut Hill to close, causing them to resort to fouling over the final few minutes of the game to get the ball back in possession.

Despite Chestnut Hill managing to convert on some possessions, the Lightning's efficient 11-of-14 shooting from the charity stripe over the final 2:51 of the game secured the 81-74 victory.

Marsh closed with a 20-point and 13-rebound double-double, senior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY) notched 14 points and seven rebounds, fellow junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) finished with 13 points, and Banks and senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) added 11 apiece for GBC.

Neal Hill had an incredibly efficient game, shooting 8-of-10 from the floor to total 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Alejandro Cybak notched 16 points and 12 rebounds, Baker had 12 points, and Argel Pettit added 11 for Chestnut Hill (7-19, 6-8 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom (15-11, 10-4 CACC) now owns a half-game lead over idle Jeferson (9-4) for first place in the CACC South Division and will host a quarterfinal game on March 5 at 6:00 pm.

Goldey-Beacom travels to Jefferson on Wednesday to face Jefferson in an 8:00 pm matchup in Philadelphia, PA. This is part of a doubleheader with the women's side, who faces Jefferson at 6:00 pm.
