Men’s Basketball Handed 102-89 Loss at Jefferson

In the de facto Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division final, Goldey-Beacom was undone by the low-post play of Jefferson for a 102-89 loss in Philadelphia.

The number one seed for the division was on the line, which meant a date with the fourth-place squad from the North Division in next Tuesday's quarterfinals.  Goldey-Beacom (15-12, 10-15 CACC) will be the No. 2 seed and host the third-place team from the North, still to be determined, next Tuesday at 6:00 pm.

The first half was yet another showcase for senior Damani Thomas (Kingston, NY), who continues to dazzle with his outside shooting and is one of the toughest to cool down when on a roll.  He was up to his usual antics with 17 points in the half on 6-of-9 shooting and hit 5-of-8 from three-point range, helping the Lightning can seven from beyond the arc.

Jefferson did its own sharpshooting by hitting 58 percent (19-of-33) from the floor, owning a 51-45 halftime cushion after being down by 11.  Erik Timko scored 15 points, Hakim Byrd poured in 13 with Justin Hawkins adding 10.

The Rams kept things going in the second half, shooting 16-of-19 from two-point range and 65 percent (20-of-31) overall from the field in netting 51 points.  Ahmed Barba-Bey scored 15 points in the half with Timko netting 12.

Thomas closed with a career-best 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting, canned a personal-high eight 3-pointers and hauled in seven rebounds.  Senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) poured in 17 points, junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) netted 14 with sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) adding 12 for the Lightning.

Timko again was sensational with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting, Byrd netted 22, Barba-Bey had 18, eight rebounds and eight assists, Hawkins poured in 14 points with Bismark Nsiah also getting 14 for the Rams (19-8, 11-4).

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday faces Wilmington (DE) as part of Hoop-It-Up, the College's annual celebration with friends and alumni during basketball season.  The women's game is at 1:00 pm, followed by the men's contest at 3:00 pm.
