Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 87-77 Loss by Post

Goldey-Beacom found itself in a close game against Post, but gave up a late run in an 87-77 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the first half had it going on both sides of the court, shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from the floor and limiting the Eagles to just 36 percent (11-of-31) for a 33-29 lead.  Senior Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) again was a presence with 11 points and junior Ayshion Centeno (Pleasantville, NJ) added seven.

Almost the entire first 15 minutes of the second half saw neither team own more than a four-point cushion, showing offensive skill at a frantic pace and not wanting to back down.

Post, ranked fourth in the latest D2SIDA East Region poll and nationally ranked earlier in the campaign, then began to assert itself.  Showing great tenacity in the paint, the visitors went on a 10-0 run in just under two minutes for a 75-64 cushion with 2:29 left.

Harrison Warnock and TaQuan Williams netted five apiece in that time.

The score was 77-68 with 79 seconds left when the Lightning decided it was time to put the Eagles on the foul line.  Post obliged by going 10-for-13 from the stripe in that time, capping a day in which it went 15-for-20 overall.

Centeno scored 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting, sophomore Caleb Bates (Detroit, MI) netted 16 on 6-of-9 shooting, Derry had 15 and six rebounds with sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) adding 10 points for the Lightning (14-11, 9-4 CACC).

Williams netted 21 points, Bol Akot poured in 19 on 7-of-11 shooting, Deng Deang scored 15, Warnock netted 13 with Robert Sanders adding 10 for the Eagles (16-7, 7-5).

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday visits Chestnut Hill for an 8:00 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools is at 6:00 pm.
