Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Makes it Two Consecutive Wins with an 80-72 Triumph over Georgian Court

A career night from senior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) helped give Goldey-Beacom its second consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Georgian Court at the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

A mid-second quarter 11-5 run from the Lightning gave them a comfortable cushion to take a 47-39 lead by halftime. The Lightning's relentless defense forced 11 first half turnovers from Georgian Court and they grabbed nine steals, led by sophomore Gaia Zimbardo (Parma, Italy) who had three.

With 4:52 remaining in the third, Stevens added to an incredible 15-point first half with a free throw to give the Lightning a 54-45 lead. Despite solid play from Goldey-Beacom, Georgian Court's spark was lit by Imani Gillette, and the Lions closed the final 2:36 on a 10-2 run to trail 57-55 with one quarter to go.

With 6:42 to go sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) nailed a 3-pointer followed by a layup to push the lead to 68-64.

Both teams traded baskets until a layup from sophomore Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) with 4:33 remaining began a Lightning run to seal the win. Goldey-Beacom outscored Georgian Court 11-4 in the final four minutes, with six from Stevens and Lemon adding five.

Stevens closed with 28 points with a perfect 9-of-9 from the floor and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. Ciszkowski notched 15 points and nine rebounds, Lemon finished with nine points, and junior Julie McCarron and freshman Genesis Garcia (Aguada, P.R.) added eight apiece for GBC (4-20, 3-9 CACC).

Safiatu Kolliegbo had an incredible 31 points on 50-percent shooting with seven rebounds, Gillette finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Samantha Jones had 10 points for Georgian Court (3-18, 3-9).

Goldey-Beacom hosts Post on Saturday at 1:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's team, who plays at 3:00 pm. Both games will be played at the Joseph West Jones Center.
