Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Wins Its Third Straight, 79-72 Over Post

Goldey-Beacom continues its winning streak, making it three wins in a row with a 79-72 triumph over Post in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Joseph West Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Senior Janiya Stevens (Ellendale, DE) and sophomore Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) combined for 51 of the Lightning's points, with Ciszkowski shooting 8-of-10 from three-point range and Stevens going 13-for-13 from the free throw line.

At the halftime buzzer, Goldey-Beacom worked its way to a 41-34 lead, led by Ciszkowski with 26 points.

With 5:06 remaining in the third, a 9-6 run in favor of the Lightning was closed with two made free throws from freshman Farrah White (Wilmington, DE) to extend the lead to 51-40.

All of the momentum was in favor of Post at the beginning of the fourth quarter, who brought the deficit to within five points in the first three minutes.

Goldey-Beacom was able to keep an eight-point buffer for the majority of the quarter. However, with 1:32 to go Post's Maya Klein canned a 3-pointer, followed by another from Dede Stevenson a minute later to bring the Eagles trailing 75-72 with 38 seconds left.

Despite numerous chances, Goldey-Beacom's defense made it challenging for Post to convert on another basket, and four made free throws from Stevens in the final 15 seconds solidified the Lightning's 79-72 triumph.

Ciszkowski closed with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting to go with 10 rebounds, Stevens notched 23 points and eight rebounds with junior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) adding eight.

GBC (5-20, 4-9 CACC) shot an impressive 44 percent from the floor and an almost perfect 19-of-20 from the free throw line.

Naj White finished with 19 points, Stevenson had 16 points and TiJanae Simmons had 15 points and seven rebounds for Post (15-8, 10-3).

Goldey-Beacom travels to Philadelphia, PA on Tuesday to face Chestnut Hill at 6:00 pm as part of a doubleheader with the men's side, who plays at 8:00 pm.
