Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 69-52 Setback at No. 13 Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom more than held its own in the early going, but was handed a 69-52 loss at 13th-ranked Jefferson in both teams Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the first quarter played outstanding defense against a Jefferson squad that came in averaging 74.7 points over its last three contests.  The Rams shot just 36 percent (8-of-22) from the field in the period and could not do anything from the outside, attempting just two 3-pointers.

Jefferson found its rhythm in the second quarter, shooting 50 percent (8-of-16) from the floor in gaining a 37-22 halftime lead.  Emma Kuczynski netted seven points in the period with Emily Spratt and Carolyn Sipprell adding four apiece.

Senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) scored nine points in the half for GBC with Spratt and Kyczynski getting 12 apiece for Jefferson.

The Lightning (0-7, 0-1 CACC) were not intimidated by their opponents, using a 13-6 run after exiting the locker room in moving to 43-35 with 5:56 left in the third quarter.  Kulesza again was outstanding, netting five points with senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) and junior Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) adding three apiece.

However, the Rams ended the period on a 12-2 run by shooting 5-of-9 from the floor in taking a 55-37 lead.  Spratt netted four points in the spurt with Recinto and Kuczynski adding three apiece.

Kulesza poured in 17 points, one short of her career high, and also hauled in seven rebounds.  Katie Yoder, named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll each of the last two weeks, had 10 points and six rebounds with junior Gaia Zimbardo (Parma, Italy) adding eight points.

Recinto was too much with 18 points and 19 rebounds, Spratt scored 19 points with Kuczynski adding 17 for the Rams (6-1, 1-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hosts Wilmington (DE) at 1:00 pm.  The men's contest between the same teams follows at 3:00 pm.
