Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls, 64-59, at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom saw Jefferson come up with two solid defensive plays in the final minute and left Philadelphia with a tough 64-59 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss.

The Lightning were in a 50-44 hole with 8:47 left before using a 10-4 burst in closing to a 54-54 tie with 3:26 to go.  Freshman Anthony Akande (Newark, NJ), who provided outstanding minutes off the bench on both ends of the court, scored six points in that span.

Most of the second half was a one-possession game and sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) made this level at 56, canning two free throws for the Lightning with 1:50 to go.

Isaiah Thomas-McClain missed a layup for the Rams and now it was the Lightning who were going for the lead.  But Sean Fullerton came up with a massive steal and kicked out to Thomas-McClain, who atoned for his miss by canning a 3-pointer with 57 seconds remaining for a 59-56 lead.

Junior Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) made a layup with 41 seconds left in getting GBC within 59-58.  The visitors elected to foul and Ashton Miller obliged, making two free throws with 35 seconds left for a 61-58 Jefferson lead.

Sophomore Jalen Robinson (South Orange, NJ) was fouled going to the goal, but only converted once from the stripe with 13 seconds to play for a 61-59 contest.  GBC had to immediately foul, but Jeremiah Dorsey stepped up and buried two free throws with 12 seconds left and a 63-59 margin.

Dorsey then iced things by stealing the ball with the Lightning looking for a quick score and dribbled out most of the remaining time.

Senior David Robinson (Philadelphia, PA) was outstanding with 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and nine rebounds for the Lightning (2-6, 0-1 CACC).  McQueen netted 14 points, which included 11 in the second half.

Marsh scored nine points and now has sole possession of 12th place in team history with 1,080 points.

Thomas-McClain poured in 15 points and Fullerton added 10 for the Rams (6-2, 1-0), who won despite shooting just 40 percent (11-of-25) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom in the first half limited Jefferson to just 37 percent shooting (10-of-27) and 3-of-14 from three-point range, but trailed 28-21 at halftime.  David Robinson scored 13 points in the half with seven rebounds for the Lightning.

GBC on Saturday hosts Wilmington (DE) as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.  Game time is at 3:00 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
