Women’s Basketball Owns the Second Half in 75-67 Victory Over American International

Goldey-Beacom took charge in the second half through outstanding shooting and solid passing in a 75-67 victory over American International at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Goldey-Beacom in the second half simply was spectacular, gaining a 45-32 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 57 percent (16-of-28) from the field and 7-for-9 from the free throw line to go with six 3-pointers.  It was yet another strong outing for a squad mixing veterans and younger players in getting the team's second straight victory and third in the last six outings.

The Lightning in the fourth quarter erupted on a 21-11 run in just under 5 1/2 minutes for a 69-59 lead with 3:16 remaining.  Sophomore Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) again played great in netting seven points with senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE) and freshman Lydia Betz (Pittsburgh, PA) adding six apiece.

Yoder scored 17 points to tie her season high on 5-of-8 shooting and is averaging 13.2 points over her last five contests.  Betz was a major factor with a season-best 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting and junior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) added 11 points.

Ciszkowski remains third in team history, now with 185 three-pointers, and still is 15th in points by climbing to 808.

Kulesza, named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll the last two weeks, had 10 points and eight rebounds, junior Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA) scored nine points.  Senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) recorded seven points in addition to matching her career high with seven assists for GBC (3-10).

Chelsea Reeves scored 15 points, Keyvanna Bennett netted 13 with Eden Monka adding 10 for the Yellow Jackets (7-5), who in the second half shot 38 percent (12-of-32) from the floor after going for 60 percent (15-of-25) in the first.

Goldey-Beacom does not play again until January 2, when it visits Staten Island for a 4:00 pm start.
