Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Dealt 62-58 Loss by Franklin Pierce

Goldey-Beacom had its way against Franklin Pierce early in the second half, but could not hold on in a 62-58 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning did not let halftime deter a 10-2 bridging the second and third quarters, gaining a 36-26 lead with 6:44 remaining.  Senior Julie Kulesza (Wilmington, DE), named this week to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, poured in seven points during that time and ended it on a 3-pointer.

The Ravens then began to dig in and caught fire over the next 12 minutes, using a 29-13 run by shooting 11-of-16 from the field for a 55-49 lead with 4:45 left.  Colette Mulderig was dominant in the paint with 10 points and Geanna Bryant was all over the place with nine.

Goldey-Beacom was in a 58-52 hole before Kulesza canned a jumper with 1:46 remaining, making it a four-point contest.  Franklin Pierce needed a basket to control the momentum and got it with Sara Macary canning one with 87 seconds to go, restoring the six-point margin.

Kulesza made a layup with 57 seconds to play for a 60-56 contest.  Franklin Pierce then benefited from a foul and was able to run down the shot clock before GBC (1-9) got the rebound of Paige Slaven's missed 3-pointer.

Sophomore Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA) was fouled on a drive to the goal with 11 seconds remaining and hit twice from the stripe for a 60-58 game.  Slaven was hacked with 8.2 seconds to go and, looking to redeem herself, buried a pair from the foul line for the final.

Kulesza scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, junior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE) added 17 with five 3-pointers and senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) poured in nine points.

Ciszkowski moved into third place in team history with 178 career 3-pointers and remains 17th in scoring, now with 778 career points.

Mulderig netted 24 points on 12-of-15 shooting with 10 rebounds, Leana Heitmann poured in 17 points with five 3-pointers and Bryant scored nine points for the Ravens (2-8)

Goldey-Beacom on Sunday visits Indiana (PA) for a 1:00 pm game.
