Men’s Basketball Falls, 72-59, to Bowie State



Goldey-Beacom faced a tough Bowie State squad and both teams were up for the challenge, but the home side left with a 72-59 loss at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
Bowie State in the opening half had its way in the low post, shooting 13-of-20 from two-point range as part of hitting 55 percent (18-of-33) overall from the field for a 41-32 lead.  Justin Morrisey scored 10 points with Elijah Davis adding eight for the Bulldogs.
 
The lead ballooned to 55-36 with 12:55 left before the Lightning made a run.  GBC went on an 18-10 spurt in just over nine minutes, closing to 65-54 with 3:32 remaining and giving itself hope.  Senior David Robinson (Philadelphia, PA) continued to be a major factor in the paint with six points.
 
But the Bulldogs scored the next four points to ice it, getting two free throws apiece from Davis and Amare Wimbush for a 69-54 margin 1:40 left.
 
Sophomore Jalen Robinson (South Orange, NJ) scored 13 points, David Robinson had 12 and a season-best 15 rebounds for his second double-double of the season with sophomore Zakari McQueen (Petersburg, VA) adding 10 points for the Lightning (3-7).  Sophomore Zayon Marsh (Maplewood, NJ) had nine points and 12 rebounds, moving into 11th place in team history with 1,096 career points.
 
Davis poured in 16 points, Wimbush had 13 and 14 rebounds with Morrisey adding 13 points for the Bulldogs (7-5), who shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the floor.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is at Franklin Pierce for a 1:00 pm game.
