(boxscore)

Goldey-Beacom made a venture into Division I territory for an exhibition contest and, despite the return of an experience roster, was handed a 102-30 setback by Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia, PA.

It should be another solid campaign for the Lightning after last season entering the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference semifinals winning six of their previous seven games.  It was the sixth time in program history and the first since 2019 that Goldey-Beacom appeared in the league's championship weekend.

A vital player back is junior Rory Ciszkowski (Wilmington, DE), a gifted scorer and competitor who last season was tabbed third team All-CACC.  After ending last season first in the league with a school-record 87 three-pointers and second with a .429 three-point percentage, Ciszkowski is sixth in school history with 152 three-pointers and just outside the top 20 with 659 career points.

Conducting the orchestra is junior Karlee Lemon (Williamsburg, VA), a solid point guard who last season was the only one for Goldey-Beacom to start in all 30 contests.  A great leader who is a solid teammate and competitor, Lemon last season finished 12th in the league with 77 assists and 13th with a .309 three-point percentage.

Another outstanding player who will be a key contributor is sophomore Katie Yoder (Dublin, PA).  A solid guard with great all-around skills on both ends of the court, Yoder last season closed first on the team with 13.5 points per game, seventh in the league with 81 free throws and 11th with a .736 free throw percentage.

It was a tough go for GBC in the opening quarter, being outscored 21-12 despite holding Saint Joseph's to 0-of-8 from 3-point range.  Senior Julie McCarron (Wilmington, DE) scored five points in the period with Yoder netting four points and senior Azuri Abraham (Phillipsburg, NJ) adding three.

The Hawks owned a 52-17 lead at halftime thanks to a 31-point second quarter in which they shot 67 percent (12-of-18) from the field.  Laura Ziegler had 17 points and 11 rebounds in the half with Talya Brugler and Aleah Snead adding 11 points apiece.

Yoder overall scored six points with McCarron and sophomore Genesis Garcia (Aguada, PR) adding five apiece for the Lightning.

Mackenzie Smith scored 22 points with Ziegler adding 19 for the Hawks.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season for real on Friday against ninth-ranked Bentley, starting at 3:00 pm.
